Venus et Fleur

This past Valentine’s Day I was extremely overwhelmed with love and FLOWERS! My favorite flowers are most definitely hot pink roses, and that’s exactly what I was given by total surprise!

John Austin and I’s four year anniversary of dating is four days after Valentine’s Day, and he went above and beyond and completely surprised me with these beautiful, vibrant pink roses, after he had already delivered me a dozen pink roses on Valentine’s Day!

I LOVE this brand of flowers, because they last anywhere from one to three years and are real flowers. They feel just like any other roses to the touch, and the smell is AMAZING!! I am so excited to have these beautiful flowers with me for at least one year! They require no maintenance at all.

The Golden Hanger prepares for U.A. sorority parents weekend

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Golden Hanger womens’ contemporary boutique located in downtown Tuscaloosa, Alabama prepares at least a week in advance for the physical store appearance for what’s called “parents weekend,” yet the real, inventory preparation begins long before. Parents weekend is when Panhellenic sororities from the University of Alabama host their parents in Tuscaloosa for weekend-long events and socials, and can even last the span of two-to-three weekends in a row (usually in February) depending on when chapters schedule them. (UA also holds a UA-wide parents weekend.)

Owner, Caroline Grimes, and her college-aged staff’s thoughts and effort towards working towards a successful weekend of events begin in October of the year before at America’s Mart Atlanta. Why is parents weekend such a big deal?

“Parents weekend is one of our largest grossing sales weekends of the entire year.”

Employee Rayne Winters recalls her experience at Atlanta Apparel and looking for merchandise for parents weekends.

“Our target market is usually around the college-aged girl and a little bit older,” she said. “But when we are buying our spring apparel we remember our events such as parents weekend, so we intentionally buy merchandise for customers that are parent-aged.”

The Golden Hanger is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the Friday of parents weekend, and is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday. A marketing and customer appreciation sales technique that Golden Hanger practices during this high retail sales weekend is theming the weekend as a “flamingo party.”

“Having the store fully stocked with bright, fun, and unique apparel that fits a large age span really attracts our customers, especially those who are in from other cities and states,” explained Winters. “This weekend really kicks off a successful spring and summer at Golden Hanger every year. We’re all smiles and good spirits for this event.”

The Golden Hanger has hosted the flamingo party for the past three years, and some return customers recognize the theme annually. Flamingo decorations are placed throughout the store and the storefront window display, fresh pink flowers are brought in, and a pink refreshment such as Rosé or raspberry lemonade is offered to shoppers.

This year, Golden Hanger is giving back philanthropically to members of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, as 10 percent of its purchases will be donated to Alpha Chi’s philanthropy. In years past, a discount such as 10 percent off an entire purchase has been offered to all customers.

Lou & Company home + gift boutique hosting Valentine's Day party

TUSCALOOSA, Ala: Lou and Company home and gift boutique located downtown Tuscaloosa, AL is preparing for their annual Valentine’s Day party. Lou & Co. will be hosting other small local businesses such as Bloom Flower Truck and Kate Bakes throughout the day on Thursday, February 14th. The store will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and will be fully stocked with unique Valentine’s Day gifts, serving champagne, and be your one-stop-shop for all of your festive needs.

Lou & Co. is promoting their Valentine’s Day party on their social media platforms and in store, featuring flyers that read, “join us for flowers, bubbly + sweet treats.” This is an all-day event for men, women, and families of all ages looking to handpick their own flower arrangements, eat some sweet baked goods, and buy their Valentine a treat! Lou & Co. will also be hosting an opportunity for their business and shoppers to give back philanthropically, as University of Alabama Panhellenic Sorority members can mention their sorority chapter at check-out for Lou & Co. to donate 10% of their purchase to their chapter’s philanthropy.

Lou & Co.’s Valentine’s Day party is one of many holiday themed events they plan and host throughout the calendar year, so I indulged in conversation with Allie Hicks, a half-year employee at Lou & Co., to see for myself what all fun was in store for shoppers of this event. I was curious to find out just how these special celebrations affected business growth and sales, and Allie informed me that, “we have many loyal customers who look forward to our holiday events and some even make customized wish lists of their favorite items to send to significant others and family members.”

In my conversation with Allie, she also gave me the insider on her favorite details of the upcoming event. “I’m most excited for our new business partnership with Kate Bakes, and our lasting partnership with Bloom Flower Truck to be in attendance. I feel like these partnership parties bring in more customers that normally would not have shopped with us on their own, but leave having discovered brands and items we carry that they will come back for at Lou & Co.” I can’t wait to attend this quite LOVE-able event, and encourage Tuscaloosa locals to attend as well.

Valentines Day in Style

We are officially one month away from Valentines Day, so I wanted to share some of my favorite Valentines outfit pieces! Whether you’re celebrating Valentines or Galentines, you’re sure to look sweet in anything pink, red, hearts, kisses, or X’s and O’s! These are some of my favorite Valentines picks, ranging from cozy loungewear sweatshirts you can binge watch romance movies with your girlfriends in with pizza + wine, or dress up with distressed jeans and a statement clutch for a date with your bae. I also included a couple of dress up options as well as a few amazing scarves!

Kisses Sweater

I’m loving this sweater because it can be worn year round! This one would be adorable on a tropical vacation with a red bikini and your favorite champagne and a cheese board :)

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.32.41 PM.png

Valentina Strapless Peplum Top

I am in love with this top and would say this one is my #1 pick for a Valentines date with your man. I would pair with black wax coated jeans and an edgy black bootie for a romantic nighttime dinner.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.34.42 PM.png

Chaser Heart on Sleeves Sweater

I love this pink and red combo loungewear set! The pieces are purchased separately, so even just the top is adorable!

Screen Shot 2019-01-23 at 2.26.57 PM.png

 B&W Heart Sweater

This sweater can of course be worn any time in the year, but is so cute to sport the entire month of February! I love to wear sweaters like this one with black jeans to work or just out-and-about during the day.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.35.24 PM.png

 Wildfox Kiss Me Sweater

I love love love this sweatshirt! I actually just ordered this one for myself because it’s on sale (in the link below)! This one would be so cute dressed up for a Valentines Day lunch and also cute to wear as an everyday outfit or layering piece for loungewear/class wear for college girls.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.36.13 PM.png

 Wildfox Love Potion Sweater

Pink and Red Faux Fur Colorblock Scarf

This scarf is oversized and ahhh-mazing! You are sure to make a statement wearing this one wherever you go! It looks super warm and cozy, too!

Cami NYC The Charlie CDC Cami

This pink cami is another great Valentines nighttime date option! If you’re bold enough to wear winter white pants like styled below, go you!, but if not, I would pair again with a black wax coated jean with booties. This cami can be worn again multiple times throughout spring and summer, and lace-up can be worn in the front or in the back.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.38.09 PM.png

Kate Spade Pink and Red Hearts Scarf

This scarf also comes in a black & white colorway, but I love the red and pink! This one is a more casual style, so it would pair well with a solid sweater and black jeans!

Mini Heart V Neck Sweater

This sweater is the absolute perfect Valentines Day sweater! I think this one is too cute to pass up and styles very classically with denim like in the photo here.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.38.56 PM.png

 Wildfox Smooches Tee

You can’t go wrong with this tee! This one can be worn to work, during day time and nighttime casually, and dressed up! I think even for a local dinner at a funky restaurant, you could even tuck this one in all the way or just in the front with black jeans, and throw on a black leather jacket on top and it would be so edgy and adorable!

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.39.50 PM.png

 Hot Pink Turtleneck Sweater

I personally love the trend of the hot pink sweater this winter! I think this one is great color and is very unique in shape and cut. It’s also very inexpensive in my link below! A great dinner option for Valentines Day!

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.43.40 PM.png

 Candy Hearts Tee

For the blogger or Instagram lover, this tee is so cute for Valentines! This one styles perfectly with denim and could pair with a colored jacket on top.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.48.19 PM.png

Popsugar Red and Pink Stripe Sweater

Lately I have been OBSESSED with a red and pink color scheme, so this sweater is the cutest ever to me, and it’s very inexpensive! I ordered the exact same one just in a star print for Christmas, and it is so comfortable, so I definitely personally recommend.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.50.58 PM.png

 Wildfox Lovestruck Sweater

Again, another sweatshirt, but this classic can be worn all year long, too! Too cute!

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.55.59 PM.png

 Scattered Hearts Leggings

I am in love with these leggings! They look super comfortable and the hearts are so chic and fun. I think you are sure to get many compliments on these leggings and stand out of the crowd in the most stylish way possible! I would wear these everyday in February <3

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.56.58 PM.png

 Heart Stopper Sweater Dress

I think this entire outfit WINS Valentines Day 2019. This sweater dress is simply amazing and the shoes shown with are stunning!! If you can rock this one, you’re killing it this Valentines!

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.58.22 PM.png

Pink Heart Crew Sweater

This adorable sweater is easy-to-style and a go-to for all year round! This one can be worn multiple times over again!

Screen Shot 2019-01-23 at 2.30.57 PM.png

 Tiny Hearts Sweatpants

These sweatpants look so extremely comfortable, so if you’re a Galentine this year, you definitely need these! Treat yourself :)

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 10.00.08 PM.png

Kate Spade Sweetheart I Love You Scarf

This scarf would be precious over a white or light pink sweater for a Valentines date! I love this one so much.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.40.22 PM.png

 Kate Spade Floral Scarf

If you have some awesome red booties to wear this year, this scarf would compliment PERFECTLY! I love this color scheme, and I know this scarf would brighten up a monochromatic black outfit stunningly.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.40.53 PM.png

 Kate Spade Heartbeat Scarf

This scarf just sums up the month of February to me and would go great over a black sweater dress for any Valentines outing or especially party!

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 9.41.17 PM.png

MILLY Kiss Dress

I’m not quite sure if I will ever have a Valentines event dressy enough for this one, but I had to include it because it is a design DREAM. I am obsessed with the leopard-turned-kisses and love the silhouette. This one is jaw-dropping.

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.53.18 AM.png

Kate Spade Heart Sweater

Lastly, a splurge of a sweater, but too precious not to include. If I were spending Valentines in a city, I think I’d have to order this one! Just so cute and would be amazing with a black fit and flare skirt.

Showing My Lashes The Love

I am a huge mascara girl! My entire life I’ve had naturally long eyelashes (thank you, Lord!) and I love a statement eye-makeup look. Since I tend to try new mascaras fairly often, I wanted to share some of the best ones I have used, name-brand and drug store. I apply a heavy amount of mascara when I apply makeup, and sometimes apply false lashes but I’m pretty new to doing my own false ones so I can’t say I have a certain brand to recommend, yet! Here are some of my favorite-of-all-time mascaras!

Urban Decay Perversion

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.06.02 AM.png
  • This mascara tops ALL for me! I love this one because it makes my eyelashes touch the bottom of my eyebrows and creates the fullest look possible without fake lashes. This one lasts a really long time, as well, so that’s another reason I’m a huge fan. It comes off easily with makeup remover but doesn’t smudge or drift away in appearance mid-wear. If you’re looking for a new mascara for a “wow” look, you should most definitely try Perversion!

Too Faced Better Than Sex

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.03.05 AM.png
  • Better Than Sex is my second favorite to Perversion, simply because it just doesn’t last that long for me! It might be because I apply a pretty heavy amount of mascara everyday, but I just don’t get as long of a use out of BTS than I do UD Perversion. However, this one is another “wow” look on your eyes and makes your lashes look extra black and full! If you have big eyes like me, a mascara like this really makes your eyes pop!!

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.04.54 AM.png
  • I typically like a more full mascara brush, but I was surprised how much I liked the thinner brush that comes in They’re Real. This brush is finer than the two above, so it really combs through your lashes to prevent your lashes from clumping and sticking together. This one is a nice dark black as well and lasted a pretty long time for me. I still have the empty bottle and sometimes just use the brush to comb through my lashes if they’re ever sticking together after I apply mascara.

Maybelline Lash Sensational

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.07.32 AM.png
  • To be more on the “drug store makeup” side, this mascara is amazing! A friend recommended this one to me and I was so impressed when I tried it! I felt like I had false lashes on with full application of this one. This one is perfect for a “natural eye” look when you don’t want to wear an eyeliner because it makes your lashes appear super long. However, I found a con to this one, with that being that it was SUPER difficult to remove for me. If you’re wanting an 6 am - 11 pm mascara, this one definitely does the job. I tend to have super sensitive undereyes, so having to scrub to get my mascara off often can take the skin off of my undereyes and even cause light bleeding, so that’s why I can’t use this one year round, because even with my strongest remover (makeup wipes, facial cleanser, Pond’s dry skin cream), this one was so hard to get off!

Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.11.07 AM.png
  • This next Maybelline mascara is super flexible and easy to apply! With just a few times across your lashes, this one has your lashes looking long and bright. I really like this one because with makeup remover, it comes off super quickly and easily and I don’t lose any lashes in the process! I definitely recommend this one to mix with more expensive mascaras, and to use just on days you aren’t wearing a full face of makeup.

Covergirl LashBlast Volume

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.09.00 AM.png
  • I wore this mascara very often in high school and like it for a light makeup look. This one comes with a thicker, more round brush that is on the shorter side, but is great because it doesn’t create an overpowering look on days you want to wear simple and little makeup. I wouldn’t wear this one for nightwear or event makeup, but it’s great for daywear and on-the-go!

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Waterproof

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.13.15 AM.png
  • I wouldn’t quite consider this Maybelline mascara the best one for nighttime events like I would the UD Perversion or Too Faced BTS, but for a work makeup look or shopping/on the town day, I think it’s great! This is a good one for a casual apparel look, and lasts a while as well. If you go through mascara quickly and prefer a less expensive, easy-to-find product, I would certainly recommend trying this one out! I’ve used it several times throughout the years and always gotten great results.

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Black Drama

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.15.12 AM.png
  • I use this mascara to begin my mascara before putting on bolder ones. I like this one because it preps my eyelashes for a heavier, thicker product like Perversion, but it’s still very easy to apply and comes off easily as well. I think this is also a great option for daytime wear, or if you don’t have naturally long lashes or aren’t a huge fan of an “eye pop” makeup look, I would recommend this one for full-time usage.

Want to Try/ Recommend to Try:

Tarte Maneater Voluptuous

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.17.57 AM.png
  • Every time I go into Ulta, I am always looking at this mascara! I really want to try this one in the near future.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.19.12 AM.png
  • I’m also really interested to try this mascara because I think it would really make long lashes pop, and it has great reviews!

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling & Lifting

Screen Shot 2019-01-13 at 1.21.20 AM.png
  • I have almost tried this one several times since I am a fan of They’re Real, but I don’t think I have yet. I have had friends recommend this one, so I’m going to check it out.

Beauty Products to Swear By

Welcome to my first product post! In this post, I wanted to share all of my favorite beauty products, excluding makeup and bath products (for other posts). Here, you can find all of my favorite-of-all-time hair, face, body, and home scented and functional products! These are not all, but my personal top-rated amazing products I have used long term. I would also love to hear your personal recommendations for products in these categories!

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.17.30 PM.png

Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 1.18.15 PM.png

  • I was first introduced to Oribe products when I started going to BloGo Blow Dry Bar and Salon. I can confidently say I am obsessed with the way these products smell. When I started getting regular blowouts, the girls primed my hair with this product to keep it heat-protected and I am hooked.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 1.22.28 PM.png

  • Again, this is one of the products I was introduced to by having my hair styled at BloGo. This texturizing spray keeps super-silky hair like mine texturized whenever I am getting my hair styled for an event that I need my curls or waves to hold all night. This product is perfect for naturally-straight hair like mine that tends to lose curl quickly if not primed properly!

Oribe Shine Light Reflecting Spray

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 1.24.06 PM.png

Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo & Conditioner

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 1.25.40 PM.png

  • Honesty Hour- I do not use brand-name shampoo/conditioner 24/7 and am super happy to use drug store shampoo and conditioner! I wash and dry my hair every single day, so I run out of shampoo and conditioner quickly. I have naturally straight hair which actually does not tend to be frizzy much at all, but I love using this Frizz Dismiss shampoo/conditioner pair. I think that this particular Redken pairing smells heavenly, but I can’t use it year-round because it tends to thicken up my hair which is naturally more on the thick side to begin with.

Bumble and Bumble BB All Style Blow Dry

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 2.23.27 PM.png

Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Leave In Conditioner

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 2.26.57 PM.png

  • If you, too, are a conditioner LOVER, I recommend this leave in conditioner! After a fresh wash and a light towel dry, I spray this one evenly throughout my hair then comb and dry! My hair feels so smooth and fresh after use!

OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Hydration Oil

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.20.53 PM.png

  • Mario Badescu Skin Care Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.12.56 PM.png
  • This facial spray is probably my most favorite product of ALL. I could bathe in this spray, not even kidding. This one is good to use before putting on makeup everyday, and after taking off makeup everyday. This spray keeps my face hydrated and feeling/looking cleaner than ever. If I am having a bad breakout, I swear by this facial spray to eliminate it, as well as blackheads. In the summer, I use this spray probably 5 times a day because it’s so good for sunburnt skin and feels so refreshing on sunburnt skin because of it’s aloe content. Even after applying makeup, this spray makes your face feel clean again. There are three different scents to this spray, but this one’s my favorite!

Mario Badescu Facial Spray Trio

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.12.34 PM.png
  • Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater

Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea

Aloe, Chamomile, and Lavender

  • Like I mentioned above, these are the three scents to the same facial spray as above! All smell good and serve small differences in purposes. I recommend all, so this trio is a great deal to buy.

Estée Lauder DayWear Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant 24H-Moisture Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 15

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.27.03 PM.png

SkinCeuticals Simply Clean Gel

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.24.45 PM.png
  • Being an ALL TIME “makeup wipe” girl for taking off my makeup every night, I have recently tossed the makeup wipes for this substitutional facial cleanser. This facial cleanser takes up makeup easier and more effectively than any makeup wipe I have ever used, and makes my face feel so amazing afterwards. It does not burn my eyes at all, so it’s great for my entire face and keeps my face so much less broken out than makeup wipes did, because it’s a much deeper cleaner. I prefer a dry facial feel rather than dewy, so if you don’t like a dry face at all, maybe use this product every-other-night, or on a substitutional schedule.

SkinCeuticals LHA Cleansing Gel

LUSH Rosy Cheeks Face Mask

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.52.52 PM.png
  • I love this refrigerator-kept face mask by Lush! Not going to lie, this one does burn at use. Once washed off, though, your face feels so smooth and incredible. This one has a light rose scent to it, which I love! I would recommend for use once-to-twice a week.

LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.53.51 PM.png
  • This product is the most fun of them all! This lip scrub, to begin, tastes amazing :) I like to use this one for more pamper-use than functional, but it also makes a really great and creative gift for a friend!

Home Fragrance:

Tyler Candles Glamorous Wash Fragrance Diva – 4 oz

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.43.51 PM.png
  • In the name for this product I included the “4 oz” size preference because as great as this laundry detergent may smell, it’s very pricey for laundry detergent! A good splurge a few times in the year, but I can’t justify using it 24/7! I like to buy the small 4 oz bottles and reserve them for when I wash my bedding!! After washing my bedding in Diva, my entire room smells floral scented and my bedding looks bright and clean! This one is a great gift as well!

Tyler Candles Chambre Parfum Fragrance Limelight– 4 oz Room Spray

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.45.14 PM.png
  • I personally love the Tyler Candle Co. scent “Limelight,” which is the fragrance I have in this room spray! If you’re looking for a great room spray to freshen up your home or for use when hosting, I highly recommend checking out the Limelight!

Capri Blue Volcano Candle

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.04.29 PM.png
  • My favorite candle in existence is most definitely Volcano, a medley of tropical fruits and sugared citrus scents! This candle is so great for all year long but especially spring/summer! This would be the best gift ever to receive!

Want to try:

Mario Badescu Drying Cream

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.11.45 PM.png

  • The description for this product is: “unique spot treatment. Helps shrink small bumps and surface blemishes. Re-balances troubled areas. Ideal for small surface blemishes and under-the-skin bumps,” so, of course, I’m really wanting to try this one asap!

Bali Body BB Cream with SPF 15

Screen Shot 2019-01-12 at 2.43.46 PM.png
  • I definitely want to try this Bali Body BB Cream because the photos of usage are incredible! I am not a tanning-bed user at ALL, and don’t really like the self-tanner look either. I think this cream will fit in the middle of the two for usage on my face, for a more natural but toned and tanned look!

Becoming a Bookworm

Hello to all of the book lovers out there!!

Even if you’re not a lover of reading books that are novels of fiction/nonfiction, you still might enjoy more of the “coffee table” style books! I tend to love both but be more favorable of a colorfully illustrated book that’s full of fun ideas and phrases and short stories!

I am becoming more of a book worm as I get older and am going to share some of my favorite books of all genres!

·      All in Good Taste – Kate Spade New York

Screen Shot 2019-01-06 at 8.08.30 PM.png

-       Kate Spade’s All in Good Taste is a book for all occasions! This is probably my favorite book that I own because it’s extremely chic, colorful, classy, and inspirational. This book is a good book to flip through on a rainy day, use for hosting, cooking, decorating, lifestyle, and personal style tips and tricks, is pretty for displaying, and would make the PERFECT gift for just about any girl out there for any occasion! I would gift this book for birthdays, brides, thank-yous, get-well-soon, or just a “happy” spur of the moment pick-me-up for a friend.

-       Some of my favorites included in this book are: “a toast in a pinch,” “the new york brunch,” “anatomy of a cheese plate,” “the art of flirtation,” “e is for exiting a taxi gracefully,” and “seventy-two words that make everything sound marvelous.”

·      The Little Book of Self Care

Accepting My Fashion Retailing Internship

To begin, I think I have to say that looking back on last summer to now, this semester has been by far the most growing, changing, developing semester I’ve ever had. If you were to take me back to last May and tell me that before Christmas I would have a third back surgery, go back to school, then accept a summer internship, I would tell you that you were CRAZY!! I used to believe that “big” things in your life only happen once in a blue moon, but wow was I wrong! I can confidently say that the past semester has taught me SO MUCH about myself, the people around me, and my future and I am so excited to continue on! So far, I would say my 20’s are off to the absolute best start!

I believe in every way that the Lord has taken me over the past semester and shown me what life is like close to Him, and how if you trust Him and live by His word, He will bless you in so many abundant and undeserving ways. Of course, it’s not a situation of “be nice and be blessed with a perfect life” because Earth will never be perfect and my life will never be perfect, but I do know that living in a Christ-following way has allowed me to see the truth in his grace and how sweet it is to live by a God that heals me and guides me towards things that allow me to be the best person I can be!

This semester started by having a major back surgery and looking back on just three short months ago, I know that I had so many different options to choose when it came to moving forward. I could have easily chosen to take the semester off from school and work completely and rest my body and mind and be very low key, I could have taken just a class or two and worked some and slowly moved on, but honestly, without even thinking, I took over a full schedule of classes, went back to work exactly one month later, and have accomplished more this semester than I have in the past! I think that there is such a mental decision to make with yourself when it comes to a new chapter (semester) and when it comes to moving on from something that knocked you down completely. I can wholeheartedly say that choosing to carry on at full speed proved to me that I am stronger than I would have ever believed and that with strength, confidence, and God, I can truly do and accomplish anything.

The most exciting part about this fall semester by far has been accepting a Fashion Retailing Internship for the summer of 2019 in Martha’s Vineyard, MA!! I absolutely cannot wait to live on the island of MV from May until school begins in August doing the thing I love most to do!! In October of this past year, I visited Martha’s Vineyard and loved it, and knew dating back to August that I wanted to move away for the summer and do an internship.

For me, and internship has been something that I have thought about literally 24/7 for over the past entire year. In the Fashion Retailing industry and degree program, doing an internship is extremely important for experience and future employment. From the start, my dream was always to intern in New York City! NYC is my favorite place ever and I thought that I would be happiest interning and living in NYC for an entire summer!! As I started searching through fashion internships, I realized that there are SO MANY and I was by far not the most qualified candidate for so many positions. However, I can 100% confidently say that being employed at The Golden Hanger since I was 17 is the #1 thing that helped me achieve the position and even feel confident enough to apply for internships! I am so glad that I have 2+ years of experience in Fashion Retailing being a sales associate and attending buying trips, because I knew my experience was exactly in line with the qualifications and requirements for the internship I applied for in Martha’s Vineyard. As I got deeper into the internship search, I had to become brutally honest with myself, because rent is real! Some internships are not paid at all but quite a bit are, but intern pay is nowhere close to affording your own rent in a place like New York City. I knew that I wouldn’t be responsible for all expenses and would have help from my family, but working the past 2+ years and moving to a new place also means to me learning to pay what I can of my own expenses and learn how the real world works! New York City is of course one of the most if not the most expensive place in America to live, and I decided for what it was worth, I would rather live comfortably than be scraping pennies, which meant expanding my geography!

When I began researching life in other places (still in the Northeast USA because I especially love that region), I knew I loved the idea of living on Martha’s Vineyard! I truly think that God placed this internship in my life for a specific reason, one I may not know just yet, but on purpose for sure, because the first internship I found was an internship that required all of the duties I was comfortable with already and experienced enough to accomplish, matched perfectly with my summer dates, and I had a month left to apply!

The application process was not too overwhelming, but I knew I had a lot of preparing to do! The first thing I knew I needed to get together was a resume, and I didn’t have a college resume built at the time. I wanted my resume to be perfectly professional, so I made an appointment at The University of Alabama’s Career Center, where professionals are available by appointment to help students for all of their professional needs. Before going in, I came up with a rough-draft resume so that the appointment would be organized and not take several hours. I sat down with a lady and for an hour, explained to her everything I had to put on my resume from my job to scholarships and awards to extracurricular activities, what I was applying for, why I wanted the internship, and how comfortable I was with the process, and she step-by-step helped me come up with a second rough-draft resume and cover letter. I highly recommend the Career Center to every UA student because it is completely free and helpful beyond words!

After the appointment, I spent a weekend using a free book guide my mentor had given me and perfecting my resume to the best of my ability, and writing the most professional, personal, and strong cover letter that I could geared towards this internship. I think it is so important to not rush an application process, because you have several chances to re-read your work and look for errors, and time to think of more creative wording and anything you may have forgotten to add. Once I got my resume and cover letter together how I wanted, I completed the other portions of the application online. For my application specifically, there were sections including all of my educational history, hobbies and interests, travel experience, links to my LinkedIn profile, blog, and social media accounts, and a portion for me to type a welcome letter as well.

Altogether, I probably spent two whole weeks taking my time and perfecting my application to the best of my ability, and I think it was the perfect amount of time for me to completely evaluate myself professionally and feel the most confident that I could when I submitted my application. Luckily, within 48 hours of submitting my application, I heard back from the company that I had been chosen to receive a phone-call interview opportunity! I formally accepted the invitation by email, and scheduled the interview for the following week.

Before this, I had never done a phone interview! I made sure to schedule the interview for an hour time period that I knew I would be at home and have no distractions going on at all. However, as things don’t always work out perfectly, some unforeseen circumstances pushed back my interview and I was actually in public at the time of the interview, but I took it with confidence and no worries! The phone interview went great, and it was a lot easier than I thought to begin with by far. The thing that I took away most from this type of interview experience is to always remain calm, and be personal, because the person interviewing you is a human, too! There is no need to feel like you have to be a robot in an interview, because it’s your possible one chance to show your personality at all! The interview ended with an exchanged, “roll tide!”

A day later, I received an email that I, again, had another opportunity to have a second phone-call interview with another member of the company. I was so excited to receive this second interview, and scheduled it for a week and a half later. The second phone interview was even more fun and personal and went great!!

Around two to three days after my second phone call interview, I received an email that kindly offered me the internship position! I have never been more grateful to accept an opportunity in my life!! I am so excited that it is finally official that I will be interning for three Soft As A Grape retail stores on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, MA, from May-mid August 2019! All visitors are welcome on MV <3

More to come about my exact position next summer!!!

    • Evelyn Henson’s map series is incredible! I recommend a map mug for a neighbor, friend, or someone who has a specific place they relocate to often, or live in for a long distance friend! I would recommend a full sized map print to a family member who owns a vacation spot, or a friend who is moving to a new location! Mugs are priced at $22 and prints are priced at $49.99

My Experience at BloGo Blow Dry Bar & Salon

Let’s talk hair and beauty! If you are wanting to treat yourself to a small, upbeat up-do, or even to a cut-and-color, BloGo Blow Dry Bar and Salon is your place to go. I knew last fall when I was styled for advertisement photos that this salon was going to be incredibly stunning and exciting!! Located in the Hotel Indigo shopping center on Jack Warner Parkway next to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre in downtown Tuscaloosa, you cannot go wrong by booking an appointment here! BloGo is owned by the fabulous Mrs. Misty Garrison, and her passion to overlook a salon filled with the love of Jesus is so evidently seen and felt with every visit. At first look, BloGo is absolutely jaw-dropping!! With all white detailing and interior, the pink booths at the front make for the chicest little spot in town. My favorite touch to the salon is the blow-dryers hanging above every chair from the ceiling! How neat is this idea!! BloGo is a full-service hair salon, but specializes in an everyday blow out. A customizable blow out can last a girl a weekend of good hair, or even just a day on the town or special event. If you’re needing a little pick-me-up or fun detail to add to your hairstyle, BloGo also has several pieces of trendy statement earrings, necklaces, and even small clutches to choose from! A few weeks ago, Misty gave me my favorite summer hair-cut ever, and this past visit, Emma styled my hair for M. Crow Style photos! You truly cannot choose a bad staff member at this salon, because they are all wonderful! Make sure to follow @blogoblowdrybarsalon on Instagram, and like them on Facebook by searching “BloGo Blow Dry Bar & Salon.” If you’d like to make an appointment, simply call or go online, or even download the BloGo Blow Dry Bar and Salon! See you there!

If you're an Alabama girl, make sure to grab a "BloGo loves the Tide" button to wear on game days!

Accepting a Multi-Aesthetic Style

If you’re anything like me, there have been times when you have felt so disappointed and so consumed with your style and especially social media that you feel totally overwhelmed and upset. What I mean by this is that many girls, as I do myself, struggle with feeling like our Instagram profile is not consistent and the photos do not match well together, and that makes us feel disorganized, discouraged, and uninterested. In today’s social media society especially, there is something so ever-pleasing about a profile’s feed that matches perfectly and flows well, to the point it can almost appear that that person’s life is cleaner, better, and more stylish than you own.

It wasn’t until a few months ago when I heard on the radio a talk about how more people now are becoming multi-aesthetic people rather than just “boho,” or “street style” or “southern fashion” type of person only. I instantly connected to this radio podcast because I have always felt like I can have the style of many different trends and characteristics all in one, but that can be difficult, especially when considering blogging or being in the fashion industry, since many people are known for their particular narrow style, because I did not want to seem random.

Since the blogging process takes lots of behind-the-scenes effort and even a few months to create, I have constantly been trying to establish this narrow, perfect, bow-on-top style of my own. It wasn’t until I truly opened my mind to accept the fact that I can have multiple “styles” that I really gained the confidence and preparation skills to begin a blog. I feel so much more open to buying new things or wearing not my “normal” outfits now that I have knocked down the barrier between myself and an open style. I have always leaned more towards little things such as solid pieces rather than printed, but after opening up my thinking and accepting this, I no longer feel “all over the place” if I want to wear an all-black outfit with studded shoes and skull printed leggings, and wear a hot pink blouse with a ruffle skirt and espadrille sandals the next day. The biggest thing I learned in this process is to not limit yourself to one particular semi-basic style because you feel pressured to. It’s so easy to be the girl who always sticks exactly by the trends of her small world, but it’s also super fun to be the girl wearing an outfit nobody would have ever put together except you. This sense of creative thinking and open-mindedness will also start to unfold in other areas of your life, allowing you to try so many new things you would have felt too out-of-the box to try before.

Life is simply too short to feel pressured to blend in, or to be afraid to be a little bit more creative than everyone else. It is so important to realize that in fashion, but especially in areas other than fashion in your life, that your life is your own in every unique way possible. If you find yourself not-so-obsessed with a trend everyone is raving over, don’t waste your time or money on trying to get your hands on it. In the professional world especially for younger adult girls, it’s key to realize that you will go farther and do greater things when you aren’t just like everyone else. Find an area in your life that you feel passionate about, and whether it be popular or not, make it your thing. Or just find what your “thing” is and do more of it, because you will grow from practice of this much more than you will grow trying to stack up a resume or trying to fit in with everyone else. Accept uniqueness more than anything, and never be pressured to fit in with the world. I can assure anyone that a multi-aesthetic style of course, but a multi-aesthetic life is so much more fun than a basic one.

I saw a quote a few weeks ago that I have been loving ever since that said, “How to slowly make every day better: 1. Make a list of things that make you happy. 2. Make a list of things you do every day. 3. Compare the lists. 4. Adjust accordingly.” Whether that be things you do or things you wear, the steps are so useful in living a happier and less stressful personal life! So, even though there are ways to slowly piece your Instagram feed together or post more of things you love, remember that you will feel so much more open-minded and open-hearted if you embrace everything you love and feel stylish in, rather than just a small glimpse.

DO + BE Collection

I’m so happy I can finally share details from the photos I have been posting on @mcrowstyle Instagram! This was my first photoshoot with Abby Bates, my beautiful photographer. The five outfits I photographed in this shoot all followed a black and white theme, and I truly did not even plan it! Every top, as well as the romper and black shorts from this photoshoot are all from the DO + BE line. DO + BE can frequently be seen in local boutiques, and their pieces are at an incredible price point. Each piece of theirs that I showcased in this photoshoot ranged from $42-58. This price range is a great middle between cheap clothes that do not last long, and expensive buys. I can speak volumes for the DO + BE brand about their clothing being durable and well-made. I love these looks because they can be worn for a various number of occasions such as date night, girls night out, college football gamedays, or even just a day on the town. Check out the "shop" link to shop each look I post on Instagram!

Black and white has always been a favorite combination of mine, but in the summertime it truly pops with a fresh tan and some natural lighting. I paired each look with a different piece from Kristalize Jewelry, which is one of my favorite jewelry brands. I have personally met Krista, the owner, several times from working with her at Golden Hanger, and I love her and her brand! All of these outfits can be mixed and matched among white skinny jeans, white flare jeans, white shorts, black shorts, or anything similar. I highly recommend when shopping for timeless pieces, to buy styles and colors that can be worn with several different tops/bottoms, because one piece can easily become 3-4 different outfits this way. I also highly suggest finding pieces for your wardrobe that are simple in color and style, yet have a fun and trendy appearance. I love a good black or white top, because I can wear it for years and style it with different jewelry pieces, pants, and shoes, to get a multitude of fun looks out of one simple buy.

I hope that throughout my posts from this photoshoot, you can see the beauty of simple individuals paired with fun items I have had in my closet for years, to create a brand-new look that I feel cute and confident in. I am working my hardest to achieve a spot on the Like to Know It app, where I will be able to easily link every piece that I wear!! Stay tuned! XOXO
